Celeros Flow Technology has injected new life into a heritage pump for a Canadian heavy oil restoration buyer, enabling them to increase manufacturing. The pump – a Mather & Platt BB5 – was more than forty years old and had been subject to numerous post-installation alterations.
Heavy oil deposits are extraordinarily viscous and require the injection of excessive strain, high temperature steam to improve fluidity and allow the oil to be pumped to the surface. In order to boost extraction on this challenge, the client needed to extend water temperatures from 90° C to 140° C. However, there have been concerns that the prevailing pump could not be succesful of ship this requirement. Nozzle masses had been a specific concern. They turned to Celeros Flow Technology model ClydeUnion Pumps, their most well-liked supplier of some 20 years, for assistance.
Mather & Platt is considered one of several heritage pump manufacturers for which Celeros Flow Technology offers full lifecycle support1. Their aftermarket engineering team undertook an intensive examination of the quadragenarian Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) boiler feed water pump used within the heavy oil extraction course of. The investigation revealed that the pump had suffered numerous seal failures over time that had damaged the stuffing field and affected operational efficiency. There had also been no maintenance interventions for many years – however the pump had by no means truly failed.
Says Mike Golds, Global Upgrade and Rerate Programme Manager for ClydeUnion Pumps: “It is testament to the quality of the original pump that it had continued to function in such harsh conditions and with no regular upkeep over such a protracted time frame. More importantly, it gave us confidence that a thorough overhaul might achieve the specified improvement in performance, saving the customer the price and misplaced manufacturing time that can be related to sourcing and putting in a new unit.”
Celeros Flow Technology overhauled the SAGD pump and carried out a mechanical seal improve and Plan 23 seal flush to optimize pump performance. In addition, finite factor analysis was undertaken to substantiate that the nozzle masses would withstand the specified temperature increase. As a result, the pump is now able to delivering steam at the larger temperatures required. The seal upgrades ensure it meets the newest specs.
Concludes Mike Golds: “We are actually pleased with the result of the SAGD pump improve. It has not only achieved the specified manufacturing improve for the shopper, but in addition supplied a more sustainable and cost-effective resolution than whole pump alternative. Using เกจวัดแรงดันปั๊มลม and analysis, we have been in a position to give the present pump a brand new lease of life and guarantee it’ll continue to perform nicely for a lot of more years.”
